This painting originates from a concept that was developed through the hardships that many people face throughout their lives all in order to realise that their lives have been spent in poverty and in rough times. The very old age and the wrinkles that I have painted represent the difficulty and the physically and mentally demanding labour that the two had to endure. Both have suffered the same amount of hardship, and the cry of help is also represented by the way I painted their eyes to show this very aspect. The blue clothing represents the gloomy life that they spent together as well and the sadness their entire life consisted off.
